Triple murder accused faces nine charges

Kgomokasitwa triple murder accused, Moagi Mokomeng faces nine charges after Police investigations revealed more crimes during his appearance in Lobatse Magistrate Court on March 17.

Mokomeng, who appeared before Lobatse Senior Magistrate, Tshoganetso Atamelang was further remanded in custody.

Initially the suspect faced three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson, which were allegedly committed on or about February 25 in Kgomokasitwa. However, three more counts of malicious damages to properties were added.

According to state prosecutor Modibedi Tladi, Mokomeng is suspected to have caused malicious damage to property by firing gun shots thereby damaging windows and a door of a Village Development Committee house used by police officer Thabo Dibotelo as a dwelling house at Kgomokasitwa.

Also, he was charged for causing damage to windows of Wathapelo Tiro’s house by smashing them with a gun. In addition, he fired gunshots and damaged the load bin, dashboard, bonnet, right front bumper and ignition chamber of a white Toyota Hilux belonging to the deceased, Elizabeth Ramolala.

The 34-year-old Botswana Defense Force soldier, initially made his first court appearance on March 3 after being apprehended in Ntlhantlhe following the killing of Elizabeth Ramolala, Alefha Ramolala and Katlego Ramolala.

He is also accused of attempting to kill both Happy Ramolala and Dibotelo as well as setting Elizabeth’s house on fire. The state prosecution submitted to court that one of the victims, Dibotelo had not yet recovered and had not given his statement on the case.

When asked if he was treated well while in custody, he responded in the affirmative.
Mokomeng will appear again in court on April 1. ENDS
