16 Mar 2025
Sejelo police acting Station Commander, Detective Usiel Keteeue, said the search for the 83-year-old man of Gasita who went missing on February 14 is still ongoing.
Speaking to BOPA in an interview on Friday, Detective Keteeue said the search party was still on the ground looking for the old man.
He reiterated that cases of missing persons were evident within their district, adding that at times they succeed in their searches and if not, they keep thriving until they reach concrete evidence enough to substantiate whether the person is alive or dead.
The detective said, though moderate, in occurrence, issues of missing persons in their district were concerning, citing that so far they have three reported cases before them, but have not garnered any lead.
Coupled with the case of a missing old man, is a file of young lady aged between 25 and 30 who went missing in January 2022 around Molapowaditau in Kanye and still at large to date.
The other missing person file involved an elder from Moshana aged around 78 years who has been missing for five years now.
To curb against these occurrences, the detective advised members of the public not to leave mentally unstable individuals unattended emphasising that proper care for the elderly was crucial in preventing such incidents.
He said immediate contact with the police in case of a missing person was also vital to initiate timely search parties and increase the chances of locating the individual.
Detective Keteeue said the community must remain vigilant and supportive in efforts to locate these missing persons.
“Let us hope for their safe return and keep them in our thoughts during this difficult time,” he said. ENDS
