Court remands murder accused Mokomeng in custody

03 Mar 2025

Lobatse Magistrate Court has remanded Kgomokasitwa triple murder accused Moagi Mokomeng in custody pending investigations.

The 34-year-old soldier is facing six counts ranging from murder, attempted murder and arson.  According to particulars of the offences, the accused has on or about February 25, 2025 in Kgomokasitwa murdered Elizabeth Ramolala, Alefha Ramolala and Katlego Ramolala.

He is further accused of attempting to kill Happy Ramolala by burning the house he was occupying as well as attempting to kill Sergeant Thabo Dibotelo by shooting him with a gun.

Still on February 25, 2025, Moagi is accused of willfully and unlawfully setting on fire Elizabeth Ramolala’s house in Kgomokasitwa.

Detective and lead investigator in the case, Mr Alakanani David told court today that the accused was being investigated for serious crimes which warranted him to be remanded in custody since the matter was still at its infancy stage.

He also said the accused already had a defilement case registered before court and was on bail.

He said Mokomeng committed the crimes while on bail, violating its conditions and therefore presenting himself as someone who could not be granted bail more so that two of the victims implicated in the current offences were witnesses in the defilement case.

Mr David told court that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused still had targets amongst the witnesses who were Ramolala family members. This, he said placed him as someone who could not be granted bail.

Given the opportunity to speak, the accused only asked when was he given bail for a defilement case and response by prosecution was that he was given bail at the time when the defilement case was registered. The accused is scheduled to appear again in court on March 17, 2025. ENDS
