Government to lure investors

12 Feb 2025

Government will go on a drive to lure more investors into the country.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Kang on Tuesday, Vice President and also Minister of Finance, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe said due to the economic downturn in the country due to poor sales of diamonds, government was compelled to look for more investors to help resuscitate the economy.

The move, he said would also ensure that more job opportunities were available for youth in the country.

Meanwhile, he said corruption if left unchecked would derail government’s efforts of luring more investors and in the process undermine all efforts to resuscitate the economy.

He said government intended to build an inclusive economy in a corrupt-free environment. Uprooting corruption, he said would build investor confidence.

Gaolathe also highlighted that due to economic challenges, government was not able to increase old age pension allowance from P830 to P1 800 as promised.

He further encouraged the residents to venture into income-generating activities so as to play a role in resuscitating the economy.

In addition, he said government would transform state-owened agencies such as Water Utilities Corporation and Botswana Meat Commission, among others, into high performance organisations that fully delivered on their mandates and as engines of wealth creation.

Earlier on when welcoming the Vice President, Kgosi Basadi Seipone told the Vice President that Kang was lacking a lot of developments.

She said there was need for a referral hospital in Kang, which would service the western part of the country and a bus terminal.

The residents told Vice President Gaolathe that they were overwhelmed with cases of stock theft and that culprits were never convicted. ENDS
