DM model review necessary - Ramogapi
29 Jan 2025
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Development Manager (DM) model may have contributed to the country’s financial challenges.
The Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi, told Patayamatebele residents during a kgotla meeting on Monday that government identified some irregularities associated with the model which prompted an audit.
There was evidence of contractors overcharging while some projects were deemed unnecessary, he said, and noted that some projects promised under the previous government had to be suspended pending completion of the review.
The DM model was used to implement large-scale projects undertaken under the National Transitional Development Plan.
Mr Ramogapi assured residents that despite financial challenges, the UDC led government was committed to fulfill the promises in the election manifesto.
For their part, residents raised concerns about water shortages, poor road infrastructure and drug shortages in health facilities. ENDS
