Khan visits Molepolole waste water drainage project

15 Jan 2025

The MP for Molepolole North Mr Arafat Khan recently visited the Molepolole Waste Water and Sanitation Treatment project as he familiarises himself with water situation in the village.

The treatment plant, undertaken by the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), is one of the seven projects earmarked to improve water situation in Molepolole and surrounding areas.

Project Coordinator Mr Bernard Brown said the waste water treatment plant was awarded to China Estate Construction which has a joint venture with citizen owned company, Excavator Hire at a tune of P608 million and was expected to take 18 months.

He said water from the treatment plant would be used by horticultural farmers, adding they will also extract methane gas to be used in households for cooking.

MP Khan said he was happy since the project was on track to be completed within the stipulated time, August 2025 as it started in October 2023.
He added that the constructors said they will hand over the project by October this year.

The main challenge, he said, was that the constructors revealed that upon handing the project the plant would not be fully functional as associated works, waste water networks, have not yet started.

The MP then promised to meet President Duma Boko and the Minister of Water and Human Settlement about sourcing funds for the remaining associated works as well as provision of potable water.

Following completion of Gamononyane – Molepolole water pipeline, expectations have been that water situation in Molepolole will improve and MP Khan said they were working round the clock to ensure villagers receive adequate water supply.

He said the project stood at 55 per cent adding they encountered delays as some farmers took time to give up their lands. ENDS
