Police are investigating an incident in which a 54-year-old woman of Kachikau ward in Nata collapsed at a drinking spot on Tuesday and was certified dead upon arrival at the clinic.
Nata Police Station commander, Superintendent Beggar Nawa explained in an interview that the deceased's 59-year-old partner was held in custody in connection with the incident.
Supt Nawa said preliminary investigations indicated that the pair had a misunderstanding earlier during their drinking spree and the deceased hit the man with a stone. However, the man did not sustain any injury and the two were separated and continued with their drinking.
He further said an eye witness said later on at around 3 pm the man tapped the deceased on the back and asked her to go home with him. He said it was then that the woman collapsed.
Superintendent Nawa said the woman was rushed to Nata Clinic where medical officials certified her dead. He thus said given the situation of the incident, they were holding the deceased's partner in custody while they awaited to establish the cause of death. ENDS
