Police arrest hit and run suspect

Police have arrested a driver suspected to have caused the death of a pedestrian in a hit and run incident in Good Hope on new year's eve.
The 28-year-old was arrested at his home village of Hebron late afternoon yesterday.
The fatal accident occurred near a nightclub in Good Hope along Metlojane-Pitsane road.
The victim, a 37 year-old man of Lobatse, was immediately rushed to Good Hope Primary Hospital where he was certified dead.
According to Good Hope Police Station commander, Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Edward, the deceased was trying to cross the road into a nightclub for entertainment when he met his untimely demise.
He divulged that the driver did not stop after the incident and was chased by a Central Transport Organisation officer who was on duty at the time.
"The driver stopped near Good Hope bus rank, alighted from his vehicle and ran away leaving his passenger female friend," he said.
He pointed out that the driver would be charged with reckless driving and failing to stop at the scene of the accident. ENDS
