A 36-year-old man of Maaloso Ward in Tonota has been denied bail in a case in which he is alleged to have killed an eight-year-old, who is also disabled.
The accused, Modisaotsile Peter is facing a single count of murdering a minor on December 26 at Manyanda Ward inTonota .
He was handed to the police by his family on December 29.
After listening to the arguments of both the Investigating Officer and the accused, Francistown Magistrate, Tshepo Magetse acceded to the prosecutor's request to remand the accused, citing that the accused allegedly threatened to kill his biological child in Mopipi after the Tonota incident.
He said this mirrored the circumstances of the current case, which also involves a vulnerable minor child, adding that this demonstrated a disturbing pattern of behaviour directed towards children.
Magistrate Magetse stated that being linked to such a threat while also evading law enforcement, heightened the need to treat the accused as both a flight risk and a danger to public safety, particularly to minors.
The Investigating officer Detective Sargent Oreeditse Tshupoeng had pleaded with the court to remand the accused as he was likely to evade justice and investigations were still at infancy stage.
She further told court that the accused had a case reported at the Orapa Police Station of threat to kill involve a minor.
The accused will appear again before court on January 20, 2025. ENDS
