Hundreds of people thronged the Francistown stadium for Chibuku Road to fame talent search on January 24. to try their luck for selection to the next round to compete for the P100 000 up for grabs.

Corporate affairs manager for Kgalagadi Breweries, Mr Masegonyana Madisa said they were overwhelmed by the good number of inspiring competition winners.

He said though they had received criticism, it had not derailed their intended goal of giving back to their loyal clients that had been supporting their product for several years.

Mr Madisa said the competition aimed at emphasising to people that Chibuku was a brand to be associated with, adding that even the cartoon highlighted that Chibuku should be enjoyed responsibly by people 18 years and above.

He noted that through the competition, the company intended to improve the lives of its supporters by giving them an opportunity to win the prize money.  In addition, he said they were fighting the stigma associated with people drinking chibuku, who were often seen as irresponsible and having no good manners.

Since they started, they had not had any bad behaviour situations from the young and old that came to showcase their different talents ranging from dance, poetry and music including stage drama.

Unlike in other talent search competitions, he said their competition is open and free to everybody from the age of 18, again not only Chibuku consumers. From Francistown, the show will be heading for Palapye then Gaborone and ending in Lobatse.

Thereafter there would be a grand finale where all the selected contestants would meet in Gaborone to compete for the ultimate prize money. ENDS
