12 Nov 2024

Police in Maun are investigating an incident in which a decomposed body of a man aged between 35 and 40 was found in his rented house at Kubung Ward over the weekend.

Maun Police Station commander, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe confirmed the incident in an interview stating that they received a report on November 10 around 2:30pm from the landlord and hurried to the scene where they found the deceased in a decomposed state.

“Post-mortem was done immediately and the report shows that the deceased died a natural death,” said Supt Zilawe.

He further noted that currently the deceased body was at the mortuary as efforts to trace his next of kin were ongoing.

The Maun police chief said according to the landlord, the deceased who claimed to be from Gulubane in the North East had been staying in the yard since 2002.

He expressed concern about incidents of this nature in his jurisdiction citing that last week they recorded another similar incident in which a decomposed body of a 24-year-old man was found in a nearby bush in the outskirts of Moeti Ward.

Supt Zilawe said the deceased was reported missing few weeks ago noting that a post-mortem was performed at the scene and revealed that he died a natural death.

Since the body was badly decomposed, he said the deceased was buried immediately.

Since beginning of November this year, Supt Zilawe said they had recorded three incidents of this nature.

Also, he said suicide cases were worrisome stating that since beginning of the year, they had registered 14 cases.

Majority of cases, he said involved young people in love affairs.

Supt Zilawe appealed to young people to open up when they had problems rather than resorting to suicide.

He said they should seek advice from their relatives, social workers, pastors and police.

He said parents and the community should also stand against such incidents saying they should play a role in advocating for mental health. Ends
