Court orders submission of accused medical records

10 Nov 2024

Chief Magistrate, Mr Daniel Nkau of Village Magistrate Court has ordered that medical records of Lesego Masilo, who is one of the accused persons in the SADC robbery case be availed to the court.

Magistrate Nkau made the order on Thursday when the accused person appeared before the court alongside three of his co-accused.

“Bring that on Monday, the report showing that he was taken to Extension II Clinic,” Mr Nkau told the prison officers.

The magistrate’s order followed a  complaint by Masilo that despite two pervious court orders by Magistrate Nkau and Magistrate Tshepo Thedi that he be taken for medical assessment, such had not been done satisfactorily.

He said although he was taken to the hospital, the doctor referred him to a specialist as well as to do head x-ray, but the prison officers were not acting on the doctor’s recommendation.

Masilo explained to the court that he suspected that the prison officers were doing so deliberately to cover up their actions as they had assaulted him without any cause, resulting in head and rib injuries.

As a result, he said he spent most of the time sleeping and in body pains, hence he pleaded with the court to assist by ordering that he be taken for medical assessment as directed by the doctor.

Masilo, Maitapiso Kgakgamatso and Mpho Rasetena who were present in court are charged alongside Otsile Semadi, Tongai Tsikirayi and Innocent Bushiri Shaggy for robbing SADC headquarters.

The suspects are alleged to have on or about January 29, 2020 stolen laptops and cameras valued at about P582 000 from the SADC offices. Ends
