Police send evidence to DPP for assessment

Letlhakane Magistrate Rosemary Kuto has been informed that evidence in two cases of obtaining by false pretences has been sent to Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for assessment.

Sergeant Mpho Basebi of Orapa police asked the court to set another date of mention for Kabelo Modise, 32, and Gazanani Walter, 33, of Mpatane ward in Mathangwane.

The two men co-own Gazza Investments in Francistown and they appeared before Letlhakane Magistrate Court facing 10 counts of obtaining by false pretences.

The matter is yet to be allocated a prosecutor. Modise and Walter, on separate occasions between September 16 and September 24, 2013 at Mopipi in Boteti Sub-district, pretending to be cattle sales agents, obtained by false pretences 18 cattle with a combined value of P47 700 from different farmers.

In one of the counts, the state charges that the two men obtained four cattle valued at P9 500 under false pretences from one Lefitlhetsemang Leeto of Mopipi.

Defence Attorney, Mboni Manyothwane, also advised the court to set a mention date somewhere in the month of April to give DPP ample time to assess evidence and be able to allocate the case a prosecutor.

In another case, Taudi Lopang, 36, of Sekeletu ward in Mopipi and Baliki Batisani, 38, of Changate ward at Changate also appeared before Magistrate Kuto facing seven counts of obtaining by false pretences.

he two accused persons, between June 16 and July 14, 2013, obtained by false pretences 32 cattle, seven goats and three sheep from farmers in the Mopipi and surrounding areas with a total value of P91 000.

In another count, Lopang and Batisani were accused of obtaining 12 cows valued at P27 000 from Thobogang Mmopi on June 20, 2013 by pretending that they were cattle sales agents. Ten days later, Lopang and Batisani obtained nine cattle valued at P23 600 from Senketseng Galehoswe.

Inspector Obbrey Mmereki told the magistrate court that the defence attorney could not make it as he was held up at Francistown, attending to other cases.

nsp. Mmereki also told the court that evidence had been sent to DPP for assessment and that the case was yet to be allocated a prosecutor.The mention date for both cases is April 7 . Ends
