24 Oct 2024
The Village Magistrate Court had ordered that the second accused person in the SADC robbery case, Lesego Masilo, be taken for medical attention.
The Senior Magistrate, Ms Tshepo Thedi, yesterday gave an order that the accused person be taken to the hospital for medical attention, which was the second order by the court regarding the accused person as the same order was made by Chief Magistrate, Mr Daniel Nkau, two weeks ago.
“The second accused person should be taken to the hospital for medical attention,” Ms Thedi ordered as she extended the accused person’s remand warrant.
The order by Senior Magistrate Thedi followed another plea by the accused person to be taken for medical attention.
He said following the court order by Chief Magistrate Nkau two weeks ago, he was taken to the hospital where he underwent x-ray examinations.
However, he said, he was referred to a specialist for his head injuries, though the prison officers had refused to take him to the specialist.
Masilo said the prison officers had told him that he would get well with time, adding that his right eye had been affected by the alleged assault at the hands of the prison officers.
“I still do not know why they assaulted me,” Masilo said before the court, adding that his body was still in pain.
The three, Kgakgamatso, Masilo and Rasetena as well as Otsile Semadi, Tongai Tsikirayi and Innocent Bushiri Shaggy, who were not in court are alleged to have robbed SADC headquarters and stole laptops and cameras valued at about P582 000 on or about January 29, 2020.The state prosecutor, Mr Pascal Mhandu told the court that other suspects not before the court, would appear for mention on a separate date and further said the trial dates for the case had been set for 13 to 17 January 13 to 17.
The case is scheduled for mention on November 7. ENDS
