Back then, our grandfathers and grandmothers used to tell us the way they used “Dikhwaere” as their entertainment whilst today they can be used for both entertainment and for profit making.
A small village some kilometres away from Letlhakeng called Ngware in the years around 1985, a choir by the name Emily choir was formed. That was then. Emily choir was reborn in 2010.
BOPA had an opportunity to interview the Director of Emily Choir, Mogorosi Sebitola. Sebitola described Emily Choir as reborn in the year 2010 and has about 15 members. He added that their village chief, Nti Kelelekilwe also had a helping hand in the re-establishment of the choir. He said that Kelelekilwe helped them by advising them to register the Choir as a business, and that’s when they agreed on the name “Emily” Investments”, registered with the Registrar of Companies.
Diboy Leadimo, the manager of Emily Investments also said that their choir sings songs that spread messages to people, songs with messages about the dangers of drugs, the importance of government Youth Grants and other important elements in life. Leadimo said that their choir makes money or raise funds when they are invited to ceremonies and events to perform.
The Manager also stated that their choir has attended several arts and culture constituency tournaments organised by Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture. He added that this choir obtained position 1 at constituency level in the years, 2010, 2011 and 2012. However, Mr Leadimo further mentioned that his wish was to see Emily Choir participating in the President’s Competitions to showcase their talent.
The secretary of the choir, Tiroyaone Sebolao noted that their choir has recorded an album “Ga nkake ka dira” at Bullet Music Productions in 2012 as a way of trying to gain recognition countrywide. “The album has 8 tracks and the hit track “Ga nkake ka dira”, he said.
