The Ministry of Transport and Public Works and Eramo Investments have signed a contract to mark the commencement of Asphalt Overlay of Dikabeya-Martins drift Turn-off road and Reseal of Access roads as well as construction of Seolwane-Mosweu-Mokokwana-Lesenepole road.
The signing was witnessed by the leadership of Seolwane, Mosweu, Mokokwana, Maunatlala and Lesenepole.
The P110m-project is expected to be completed in 18 months, with the expected completion date scheduled for April 2026.
Minister of Transport and Public Works Mr Eric Molale who was officiating at the signing ceremony held at Seolwane on Wednesday, said his ministry introduced a new initiative of signing contracts in a transparent manner to ensure that communities had a sense of belonging and involvement.
He said the initiative also helped contractors to understand that they were accountable to the communities.
Mr Molale highlighted that the design of the 26km Seolwane-Mosweu-Mokokwana-Maunatlala-Lesenepole road was expected to be done at a later stage at an estimated cost of P260m.
“Seolwane-Mosweu-Mokokwana-Maunatlala and Lesenepole road will be designed first hence construction will start at a later stage,” he said.
He explained that government had taken a deliberate decision to embark on construction of road infrastructure as well as restoring existing infrastructure in a cost effective manner without compromising quality by adopting the use of new technologies.
He said cabinet had approved the use of alternative cost-effective bitumiuos road surface treatments particularly slurry seals and combinations of seals. Seolwane-Mosweu-Maunatlala road is among projects which will be constructed using cape seal.
"I call upon the contractor and other stakeholders to do their part to ensure that the road gets completed on time and to engender good relations with the community that they serve in,” he said.
For his part the contractor Mr Amochilo Mosweu of Eramo Investments promised to deliver the project on time and on budget.
He urged the communities of the affected villages to work harmoniously with his company to deliver this project as desired promising to recruit his staff locally.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, and also the former area MP Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele, thanked Mr Molale for including Seolwane-Mosweu-Mokokwana-Maunatlala and Lesenepole road in his ministry’s budget.
He said construction of the road would create employment for the youth in these villages. ENDS
