BTC launches next years Ftown Marathon

The Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has a long-standing commitment to give back to the communities it operates in, says the acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms Boitumelo Paya, at the launch of the 4th BTC Francistown Marathon held in Francistown last Thursday.
Ms Paya said through Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives, BTC managed to donate cash amounting to P298, 218 from the second marathon held in 2023. She added that the total value of donations from the third BTC Francistown Marathon, which was held early this year stands at P379 792. 88.
Ms Paya said of the above-mentioned amount, the North East District Council received P100 000 for the enhancement of patient comfort and the expansion of Tsamaya Clinic’s waiting area. She added that the Tonota District Council received 1 200 chairs and 250 kids’ tables, valued at P102 950 to address a shortage of furniture in local schools while on the other hand, the Tutume District Council received three heavy-duty photocopy machines for Manxotae, Tsokatshaa, and Sepako Primary Schools, valued at P96 842.
Lastly, the Francistown Athletics Club received P80 000 cash for the daily running of the club and the purchase of training equipment.
Ms Paya said the main objectives in hosting the marathon was to positively impact communities by fostering social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
She said the BTC Francistown Marathon serves as a platform for commercial growth, boosting the local economy.
BTC Head of Business Development, Mr Pilot Yane, announced that the 2025 BTC Francistown marathon would be held on April 26. Mr Yane said the main mandate of the 2025 marathon is to create social value for communities through partnerships and also impact the lives of people in pursuit of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
He said the corporation also aimed to harness untapped talent through CSI and boost the economy of Francistown and surrounding areas. The marathon will give athletes an opportunity to qualify for international events such as the Comrades Marathon.
Francistown Mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo, said the BTC Francistown Marathon has become part of the community since its inception. Mr Radisigo commended BTC for the magnificent deed of making good on its promise to uplift the host communities. ENDS
