Kanye District has recorded one loss of life due to diarrhoea.

The District’s Health Specialist, Dr Christopher Chember said in an interview that the district had been experiencing diarrhoea outbreak, mainly affecting children aged below five years since mid-August.

As a way of mitigating the outbreak, he said the district outbreak response team had been dispatched to the affected communities to investigate the source of outbreak as well as to intensify health education.

Also, he said they were working with the district council to examine the quality of water.

He encouraged the public to take extra precautionary measures and maintain proper hygiene, saying diarrhoea mostly spread through contact with an infected person or contaminated food and drinking water sources.

He said diarrhoea was the leading cause in child mortality and morbidity in the world adding its symptoms were stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and low-grade fever. Ends
