Skelemani attends PAP conference

Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Phandu Skelemani is in Johannesburg for the Pan African Parliament speakers’ conference that started on September 18 and ends today.
A statement from the National Assembly says the speakers’ conference will discuss among others, the status for peace and security in Africa and its impact on continental integration and economic development, progress in the implementation of the African Free Trade Area and how Parliaments can assist in creating an enabling legislative and policy environment as well as the impact of climate change on the continent and Africa’s strategies pursuit going into COP 29.
Discussions will also centre around Mpox in the continent and measures to eradicate the virus, food and energy insecurity and how African national Parliaments can contribute to the enhancement of production and food and energy self-sufficiency.
The statement further says speakers will share experiences and strengthen parliamentary cooperation and collaboration.
The theme for this year’s conference is: Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, Lifelong Quality and Relevant Learning in Africa.
Mr Skelemani is expected back home tomorrow. Ends
