01 Sep 2024

Extension II Chief Magistrate, Ms Kamogelo Mmesi, has remanded in custody four men accused of robbing and stealing from a church in Old Naledi, Gaborone.

The four – Thabo Ronald, Donald Gaoletswe, Maikano Setshwantsho and Kgololo Rakgaba – appeared before Magistrate Mmesi on Wednesday for robbing and stealing from Jesus Christ Church.

Although the four, who pleaded guilty to the charges asked the court to grant them an opportunity to wait for the reading of fact and possible sentencing on bail, such was declined.

In turn, Magistrate Mmesi ordered them to be remanded in custody and appear on 13 September for facts reading, after the state indicated it was not ready with the facts.

The magistrate further ordered the police to assist Setshwantsho to take her medication from her place.

According to the charge sheet, the four are accused of having broken into Jesus Chris Church and stolen 15 black chairs, pulpit stool, extension cord, solar light set and second hand shoes all valued at P1940.

They will appear again on 13 September. Ends
