KWAPE PARTICIPATES AT THE TOKYO INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AFRICA DEVELOPMENT

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Dr Lemogang Kwape, is in Japan for the Ministerial Meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD), which starts August 24 to 25. The Ministerial Meeting, will be held under the theme; Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa. It will among others, discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between Japan and African countries. The meeting will deliberate on three thematic areas, namely, Realising a Sustainable Future; Ensuring Human Dignity and Human Security; and Promoting Trade and Investment. The meeting will also review progress on commitments made during the TICAD 8 Summit. On the margins of the ministerial meeting, Dr Kwape will hold bilateral meetings with Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, as well as with Japan International Cooperation Agency president, Dr Tanaka Akihito. Initiated in 1993 by Japan, TICAD promotes dialogue between African leaders and Japan to mobilise support for Africa’s development initiatives. Over the years through the TICAD process, Botswana has benefitted in various sectors, including receiving development assistance in areas such as health, management of forestry resources, and the development of infrastructure projects such as the construction of the One Stop Border Posts at Mamuno and Kazungula borders.
