07 Aug 2024
Rape accused, Samuel Selolwane alongside his co-accused will appear again before Broadhurst Magistrate Court on August 20 for status hearing.
This follows a decision by Principal Magistrate Ms Goratile Moremi-Ramakoloi who extended Selolwane and the second accused person’s remand warrant when they appeared before court on Tuesday.
The 59-year-old Selolwane is facing a single charge of raping a minor, a 13-year-old girl in Oodi, January this year.
His previous attempts to get bail were rejected by Magistrate Linah Oahile-Mokibe of Broadhurst Magistrate Court as well as Justice Itumeleng Segopolo of the Gaborone High Court.
Selolwane is charged alongside the victim’s mother and a friend who are alleged to have aided in the commission of the sexual violence on the minor.
Despite him being denied bail, the accused person had throughout the case maintained that he was innocent of the crime he was accused of.
He is represented by attorney Dr Obonye Jonas while the victim’s mother and friend are self-represented and the state is represented by Ms Seeletso Ookeditse of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The case will mention again before the substantive magistrate Ms Oahile-Mokibe on August 20. Ends
