My Star pitches in Letlhakane

12 Jan 2014

Through the support of Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, My Star show will be able to reach all corners of Botswana, unearthing hidden talent, says the show director, Keabetswe ‘Master Dee’ Sesinyi.

In an interview during the show’s first ever auditions in Letlhakane on January 10, Master Dee said My Star was an example of government’s support for the arts. Thus, he appealed to the youth to take advantage of the show as it would help them realise their dreams.

Meanwhile, the show which seemed to be the favourite among music lovers, attracted a lot of spectators than aspiring singers as only nine were auditioned.

This prompted Sesinyi to encourage others to take part so as to develop their singing career and create employment to be able to sustain their families and diversifying the economy in the long run.

Even though My Star came to Letlhakane for the first time this year, Master Dee said the village was not new in the competition as one of its own products was a local artiste, Smarh who finished third during the competition some years back.

The Letlhakane, the audition kicked off with Naledi Kgosiemang who sailed to the next round of the competition. She however did not have it easy as she had to impress both the crowd and the judges.

Besides performing under a cloud of fear due to stage fright, Naledi gave it all as she impressed the crowd and the judges. One of the judges, Kgomotso Tshwenyego applauded Naledi for kick starting the show with an impressive performance.

Tumediso 'Shanti Lo' Loeto, he advised Naledi to never allow the nerves to get the better of her. “You were a bit shaky, but I would love to see you at the next round of the singing competition,” he said. Another contender who made it to the next round was Vuyani Galebolae from Serowe. The young lad first impressed the judges with his pantsula kind of attire.

The shy, tall figure with a big voice, was also not able to perform to his fullest capability as he was also shivering on stage closing his eyes most of the time and unable to communicate with the crowd.

However, his strong commanding voice forced one of the judges, Tshwenyego to join him on stage as he performed a song titled, If tomorrow never comes, and was given a yes to the next round.

Besides the performance by the new comers, the judges were not impressed with the performance of those who were not appearing in the auditions for the first time, saying they had no reason to perform below par. ENDS
