The event themed: Youth Skills for Peace and Sustainable Developments, is a collaboration between Botswana National Youth Council and UNDP.
In an interview with BOPA on Monday, Kweneng Region principal programmes officer, Mr Percy Seema said the main objectives of the commemoration was to celebrate and raise awareness on the importance of skills development among the youth, equip young people with skills for employment and decent work as well as facilitate dialogue between young people and stakeholders from private sector and vocational education providers regarding the skills needed by young people in future.
“It is an opportunity to recognise the meaning of providing young people with the necessary skills to face the challenges of the future,” said Mr Seema.
He said youth were the country’s most valuable asset and developing their skills and abilities was a strategic and wise investment in Botswana’s future.
Mr Seema noted that MYSC had taken up responsibilities to ensure that youth skills were celebrated across the country annually through their respective district offices.
He said in order to achieve the Reset Agenda, there was need to acknowledge the rapidly changing world that presented multi-faceted challenges ranging from technological advancements to environmental concerns.
He pointed out that the youth needed to possess the right skills and knowledge in order to adapt and thrive in the developing landscape. ENDS
