Letlhakane water network upgrading ongoing

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is hard at work upgrading Letlhakane water distribution network.
The WUC project manager, Mr Modisaotsile Basinyi told a Wednesday kgotla meeting addressed by the Member Parliament for Boteti East that the aim of the P9.5 million-project was to upgrade the existing booster station, construct pipeline from booster station to collector tank at Phase One and rehabilitate of old tanks.
He noted that the contractor, Rasto Engineering started with the project on June 19 and was expected to complete it in December.
For is part, Rasto Engineering contractor, Mr Erastus Kavezeri said the project was at design stage, which would be followed by construction.
Mr Kavezeri stated that the company had not yet started recruitment as final design would determine the total number of personnel required.
Furthermore, general manager of WUC, Letlhakane Mr Kehano Malema stated that over and above the current works, a long term solution project, which aimed to augment water supply in the village, would rehabilitate existing infrastructure and attend to unserviced plots in Letlhakane through National Development Plan 12.
Mr Malema indicated that the whole village would be modelled and that would determine where to place elevated tanks and a booster station if required.
In addition, he disclosed that the project tender to establish a treatment plant to treat raw water from Lucara had been awarded and initiation workshop would be held before the end of this month.
He stated that four contractors had also been engaged to address the backlog of private water connections in the village. Ends
