The campaign, intended to encourage Moshupa/Manyana constituents to take ownership of the cleanliness of their shared public spaces was launched in Moshupa on Saturday.

“It cannot be right that we claim to love cleanliness and the environment yet we do not take care of it, ” said  MP for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Karabo Gare during the launch of the campaign.

He encouraged the community to join forces and look after the environment so that it could also look after  them.

“We need the environment for our existence and it must be well looked after he said.”

Mr Gare said the campaign would roll out several activations focused on cleaning up shared spaces and maintaining green spaces mainly in Moshupa/Manyana constituency.

The initiatives, he said would be complemented by several packages including educational workshops dubbed ‘Litter to Glitter’, which would be held routinely wherein the attendees would be put through recycling concepts and beneficiation.

Mr Gare explained that the ‘Bag it’ school campaign would feature school cleanliness competitions and those that met the clean mark would be rewarded.

He added that another package was the social media campaign, ‘Snap and Share’, which encouraged community members to share their participation in the drive by posting pictures on social media for a chance to win prizes.

The other package, he said was the social club competitions, ‘A ragele kwa!’, a competition by social clubs aimed at promoting cleanliness and community spirit.

Mr Gare emphasised the importance of the campaign saying it was not just a campaign, but it was aimed to promote greater cooperation with residents and communities to look after their immediate environment.

He said it would also raise awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal and community involvement in maintaining a clean healthy environment. ENDS
