The mother of two children who were allegedly killed by their father in Monarch location, Francistown on Sunday has been placed in safe custody for her protection.
Francistown Police acting Station Commander Douglas Khumalo confirmed in an interview that the mother, who works as a security officer, was taken to a safe place with fear that the suspect might return and harm her.
Mr Khumalo said they have engaged a police helicopter into the search, accompanied by members of the community, adding that the search team had gone beyond Mathangwane.
He appealed to everyone to help with the information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect.
Area Councillor, Mr Gopolang Almandi, who is part of the search team said they have stumbled upon some key piece of evidence, seemingly a jersey confirmed to be that of the suspect abandoned in the treacherous terrain along the Tati River.
“Our tracking also led us to a spot where we found a message written on the ground ‘Rape, murder,’ accompanied by a drawing of a man carrying a gun, of which we suspect to be that of the man we are looking for,” he said.
Councillor Almandi said as the manhunt continued, their pursuit took them to a remote cattle post where fresh clues surfaced.
He said residents of the said cattle post recalled seeing the suspect who is said to have requested a highly potent poison.
Shocked by the sinister request, they narrated how they informed him that no such substance was available.
The suspect is alleged to have killed his two children aged three years and 11 months on Sunday (July 7). They all hail from Matobo. Ends
