Mochudi police have arrested a 24-year-old man of Pilane for assaulting three families in the village on June 29.

Mochudi Station Commander, Superintendent Joel Masilo said the assailant,  who was was arrested near Mochudi on July 1, used an axe handle to attack the victims.

He is scheduled to appear before Mochudi Magistrate Court on July 3.

The victims include a 65-year-old woman,  who sustained injuries on the head and a broken leg. She is hospitalised at Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone.

In another homestead on the same day, the assailant attacked a 71-year-old man who also sustained serious injuries on the legs. Supt Masilo said the victim was recovering at Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital in Mochudi

Supt. Masilo said police launched a manhunt on the same day, but could not find the suspect. He said it was later reported the same day that the suspect attacked another family within the same neighbourhood. He said although no one was injured in the incident the suspect burnt a one-room house with goods worth P28 000.

Superintendent Masilo has implored the public to remain calm and not to take law into their hands while investigations continue. ENDS
