Police in Mochudi have remanded in custody a 20-year-old man who is suspected to have murdered his 60-year-old mother at Mokone Ward in Morwa on June 21.

In an interview, Mochudi station commander, Superintendent Joel Masilo said the suspect had reported that he had found his mother dead and the house ransacked with some belongings missing.

Supt. Masilo said upon receiving the report, they found the woman motionless by the doorstep at her house, with no sign of life.

He said the deceased, who had stab wounds on the neck, was taken to Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital on the same day where she was certified dead and was ferried to a private mortuary.

“Following thorough investigations, we suspected foul play because there was no sign of intrusion and the son became a primary suspect. He has been remanded in prison custody to help with investigations,” Supt. Masilo said.

He added that after interrogating him, the suspect then led the police to recover goods that he had reported stolen, including a knife with blood stains, suspected to have been used to execute the murder.

In another incident, Supt. Masilo said a 24-year-old man of Makgophana Ward was in their custody to help with investigations of a rape incident.

He said the man was suspected to have raped a 30-year-old woman by Notwane Bridge in Boseja Ward on the night of June 22.

He said the victim, who was in the company of a female friend, was travelling home from a night club, when she got attacked. Ends
