Bak2Skul student wins Polo Vivo

Kennedy Dematema is a living testimony of the rewards of being a loyal student of the Bak2Skul festival after winning himself a new Polo Vivo through the sms competition intended to give back to supporters of the annual festival.
As other pupils were busy celebrating their first day at school on January 1 at the Gaborone North Farm, an announcement came through that the 44-year-old Sebina-born Dematema had picked up the right car key.
The revellers could only join him in excitement as he rejoiced on stage, all thanks to the annual Bak2Skul festival organisers, who had given him a chance to drive a new car in the New Year.
Dematema could not contain his excitement as he immediately texted his wife to break the good news. He said he had been vindicated because his wife had always accused him of wasting money by entering raffles. “This is a dream come true; my wife and family will certainly be happy now that I have won.
In fact, I texted 70 times to try my luck and I was not ready to stop,” he said in an interview. The lucky man said he had been a Bak2Skul festival enthusiast from way back and that he was highly motivated to take part in the competition. On the whole, no student left empty handed as the DJ’s for the night gave the night crawlers something to talk about the whole year.
Despite the fact that the show was dominated by DJ’s, revellers were on their feet until sunrise as they danced the night away. The Deejays alternated on decks jumping from one music genre to the next. Dj Cola Straw, together with South African Deejays Tebza and Pozzino dished out house music, which seemed a favourite for party lovers.
DJ Ricky Lamar drove the crowd mad with his scratching and versatility on the decks as he also dropped house with a bit of kwaito here and there. Another South African based DJ Ganyani well known for the hit Xigubu added on the house music list and closed his performance with the long awaited Xigubu as the crowd danced all the way.
Just when the ‘school’ was enthralled with house music, DJ T- Izzy ascended the stage, taking revellers to a different world of Hip Hop and R&B. Those who could rap exposed their talents as the young DJ paused the music, allowing the crowd to sing along as he paddled them to another level of partying.
New comer, Shota from South Africa did not disappoint with his Kwaito tunes, but the highlight was when he performed his hit track Ben 10. The long awaited performance by La- Timmy of the Nanzala Vuke fame came at the end when the night crawllers appeared to have been drained from the whole night of partying.
Everyone was on their feet as the energetic La- Timmy rejuvenated them with his hot tune Nanzala Vuke as they drifted away in to the morning of yet another day of the Bak2Skul spectacular.
As always, the students did not disappoint as they came clad in their school uniforms to reminisce the good old days when they used to line up the assembly area for prayers and important messages from school authorities.
The MC for the night, Don Dada coordinated the assembly brilliantly as the ‘pupils’ sung schools hymns in the likes of O ya galalela! which has now become very popular and synonymous with the Bak2Skul festival. ENDS
