Besides teaching the Gospel, the church also has a responsibility to improve the nation’s welfare and drive developments.
Archbishop Mokopakgomo Kgomokgwana of New Apostolic Prophets Church made the remarks during a ceremony to donate food hampers to five less privileged elderly persons at Disana Ward in Maun recently, a gesture he said indicated his church’s commitment to supporting those faced with difficulties.
The church’s leadership had converged in Maun, to discuss the church affairs and embarked on a recruitment drive of new members.
“Our mandate is to save people through the good Gospel, drive developments, give hope to the hopeless and make a difference in the lives of the communities. The world is full of challenges and the church is the place to provide solutions and ensure peace and stability,” said Archbishop Kgomokgwana.
He said the church had plans to undertake community sustainable projects as construction of pre-schools but funds were stumbling block.
Archbishop Kgomokgwana said church members ought to visit prisons and hospitals, to offer practical help and give hope.
The church, is a place that people turn to for help, he said.
Assistant Archbishop Oalotswe Mmolayatsie concurred and stated that the church had a responsibility to assist government where there was need but decried shortage of funds. He said most churches struggled to undertake developments because they relied much on the small contributions from congregations.
New Apostolic Prophets Church was established in 1974 and has its headquarters in Serowe.
Assistant Archbishop Oalotswe Mmolayatsie said the church prides itself in empowering women to leadership positions.
“We are celebrating 50 years of existence and we aimed to put a smile on 50 people but because of lack of resource we failed but we believe that the little we managed will make a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries,” he said.
Church founder, Archbishop Dintle Mokgobelela thanked fellow church members for demonstrating love and care and added that next time, they would be handing a house to one of the needy persons in Disana Ward. ends
