A tip off from the public has resulted in the arrest of two men who were suspected to have killed a warthog without a license at Xodumela farms on Saturday, .

Maun Station Commander Superintendent Dennis Zilawe told BOPA that the suspects, a 55-year-old from Sedie Ward and 71-year-old from Matlapana, were apprehended after concerned villagers reported hearing gunshots in the area, a tip-off that prompted a swift response from law enforcement officers.

Superintendent Dennis Zilawe emphasised the importance of community cooperation in combating crime and preserving natural environment.

He commended the villagers for their vigilance and quick action in reporting the suspicious activity, which led to the arrest of the suspects. The two men are currently in police custody pending investigations. They may face a single count of hunting without a license, an offence that can lead to a prison sentence of three to five years, a fine of P1 000 to P5 000 or both, Supt Zilawe said.

In another incident, a security guard was brutally attacked at a gas facility in the early hours of Thursday.

According to reports, the security guard was heard screaming for help behind Maun Senior Secondary School, a kilometre away from his workstation after a group of seven assailants attacked him and later dumped him at the said area.

“The attackers used tape to restrict the guard’s hands and legs before blasting open the safe at the gas supplier’s facility, making off with P10 000,” Supt Zilawe said.

He was concerned about the brazen attack and urged anyone with information to come forward. ENDS
