VP commends Bayport

Vice President Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has commended Bayport Financial Services for building a house for a needy family in Palapye.
Handing over the house to Ms Kedibonye Isaacs and her family in Palapye on Friday, December 20, Dr Kedikilwe said the family has been given dignity by Bayport Financial Services. The two and a half house consists of two bedrooms, a combined shower and toilet and a kitchen.
Dr Kedikilwe said compassion for fellow citizens was one of the foundations of national unity, adding that when there was love, sin becomes invisible, as light was to darkness. “This occasion is indeed a foundation of Christian love, compassion and caring for one another, for we are brought together by love to the family of Kedibonye Isaacs,” he said.
He said Bayport Financial Services has demonstrated its commitment to serve the needs of their clients regardless of locality. He urged the organisation to carry on the good work and help Batswana in other parts of the country.
Dr Kedikilwe urged beneficiaries not to be complacent under the mistaken belief that they would continue to receive and survive on handouts.He said beneficiaries should complement the efforts of companies such as Bayport through worthwhile and meaningful self-help activities.
Dr Kedikilwe, who is also the MP for Mmadinare, noted that the government has introduced programmes which target underprivileged members of society. He named the Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) programme as one such initiative, noting that it has a budget provision of P72 million.
He also noted that there were social welfare programmes targeting the destitute, orphans, home based care patients, World War II veterans, old age pensioners and remote area communities. Bayport Financial Services chief executive officer, Mr Father Maphongo said his organisation was not only after making profits, but also had a corporate social responsibility of making a difference in the lives of people living in communities were it operates.
He said Christmas was a time of loving, giving and sharing hence the donation of the house to the family. The area MP, Mr Moiseraele Goya urged the private sector to join hands with the government to eradicate abject poverty. For her part, Ms Isaacs thanked the financial services company and the MP’s office for the donation. She also commended her neighbours who gave her family accommodation during heavy rains. Ends
