Boko attends France- Africa Summit

President Advocate Duma Boko is participating in the France Africa Summit which started yesterday and will  conclude today in Nairobi, Kenya.

A press release from the Office of the President states that the summit, hosted by Kenya and France under the theme: Africa Forward Summit: Africa–France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth, brought together heads of state, business leaders, innovators, civil society representatives, youth and members of the diaspora.

The gathering aims to explore ways of renewing and strengthening relations between the African continent and France, while advancing economic development partnerships.

According to the release, the summit will deliberate on a range of issues, including health systems strengthening, peace and security, digital competitiveness, energy access and food sovereignty, in an effort to identify practical solutions to shared challenges.

“President Boko is expected to deliver a statement at the forum during a high-level sporting event, where he will highlight Botswana’s commitment to implementing public policies that leverage sports for economic, social and regional development,” says the release.

The President is also expected to co-chair a high-level roundtable discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the blue economy, health and agriculture.

“During the session, he will provide strategic and political direction on the theme: “AI Governance and Science Policy: The Case for Locally Owned Data, From Mineral Mapping to Public Services,” notes the release.

In addition, the release states that President Boko will participate in high-level engagements on sustainable industrialisation, energy transition and the international financial architecture.

On the margins of the summit, the President is expected to meet with Batswana residing in Kenya to engage them on emerging issues of national concern and interest.

In his absence, the release states that Vice President, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe will assume the role of Acting President.

President Boko is expected to return home on tomorrow. ENDS
