Court denies murder accused bail
20 Apr 2024
Murder accused, Bakang Masole has been further remanded in custody after he was denied bail on April 19.
Chief Magistrate Gaseitsiwe Tonoki dismissed Masole’s bail application submitted on April 11 on grounds that he was facing a serious offence.
Mr Tonoki also argued that granting the accused bail might put his life at risk and also spur public uproar, particularly after the previous riots that had resulted in damage to property in Molepolole when he was arrested last year.
On one hand, in the written bail application, the accused had stated that he was a citizen and was not a flight risk and would not interfere with the ongoing investigations.
Masole is accused of killing Phenyo Jakoba, a taxi driver from Molepolole and robbing him of his Honda Fit car on November 9, 2023. He will appear again on May 7. BOPA
