Court remands Molepolole firearms theft accused

Molepolole Principal Magistrate has remanded Kabelo Paul, who is accused of breaking into Molepolole Police station and stealing firearms.
When remanding the accused, Solomon Setshedi said Paul, who is facing a single count of store breaking and theft, had committed a serious offence adding that the Investigation Officer had given valid proof for him to be remanded in custody. He will appear again on May 7.
According to the charge sheet, the accused, aged 30, has on April 3 broken into Molepolole Police station armory and stole an AK47 rifle, two AK47 magazines, .22 rifle and 60 live rounds ammunitions.
When seeking for the accused to be remand, Investigation officer, Detective Assistant Superitendent, Tshupetso Mokgopa told the court that the accused had several cases. He said he also had a house breaking case and was also a wanted person for a robbery case at Shakawe Police station.
He further said witnesses were yet to be interviewed and that weapons were yet to be taken for forensics for further investigations.
Public prosecutor, Inspector Thema Marumola also told the court to remand the accused as investigations into the matter were still at infancy stage.
Meanwhile, the accused had agreed with Inspector Marumola on him being denied bail. ENDS
