Shakawe police are investigating an incident in which a 31-year-old man died from head injuries he sustained when he fell off a stepladder.

The man was carrying out maintenance work at a filling station over the Easter Holidays.

Assistant superintendent Babinang Banohi confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased, who originates from Ndundu ward in Shakawe, together with other men, were installing a ceiling.

Those who witnessed the incident reported that the stepladder slid and the deceased fell from the top and sustained serious injuries at the back of his head.

The deceased was immediately rushed to JP Kavindama Memorial Hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival.
Investigations continue.

Assistant superintendent Banohi also noted that police had recorded another incident at Kajaja, where a 27-year-old man of Mapapu ward committed suicide by hanging from the rafters of his room with a rope.

He said the matter was reported by the deceased mother, who revealed that his son came home around 9pm from the entertainment spot on the eve of Easter Holidays and went to sleep.

The following day, she said the deceased did not come out until the family checked on him, only to find him hanging from the rafters.

Besides the two incidents, Assistant Superintendent Banohi said Easter Holidays were relatively peaceful and quiet in terms of criminality, for which he thanked the community.

In Maun, police have registered two incidents of rape involving a 17-year-old pupil and a 25-year-old woman at different locations.

Assistant Superintendent Kgakgamatso Koboyatshwene revealed that the victims reported the ordeals.

The 17-year-old, who resides at Moeti ward, reported that three unknown men raped her while waiting for a taxi to check on her mother at Boseja ward.

Narrating her story, she said the men approached her, one  pointing a sharp object at her while dragging her to the nearby abandoned house where they took turns to rape her.

As for the 25-year-old woman, she was raped by an unknown man while returning from the club.

The victim, Assistant Superintendent Koboyatshwene said, was accompanied by her female friend on their way to visit  a mutual friend at Sanyedi ward in the early hours of Sunday when she met her fate.

Along the way, she said the duo met two men who convinced them to accompany them to their place at Boyei ward for some drinks.

After sometime, he said one man dragged the victim into the house, locked the door and raped her, after which the two men fled the scene.

“We have embarked on a massive search for the culprits while investigations continue,” Superintendent Koboyatshwene  said. ENDS
