Residents welcome upcoming projects

03 Apr 2024

There are a number of projects budgeted for and set to be implemented in Boteti East this financial year.

According to the area MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, the recently concluded Parliament budget session has approved and released funds for these projects.

In Mokubilo, the construction of a long-awaited clinic with a maternity wing is on the horizon.

The facility will also include three staff houses. During a kgotla meeting on Tuesday, the MP mentioned that the project is scheduled to commence in June.

Additionally, Mokubilo will witness the expansion of electricity connection within the village. In Makgaba, a clinic with four staff houses is slated for construction this financial year.

The Makgaba VDC chairperson, Mr Monthusi Ketumile, expressed appreciation to the government for this initiative, emphasising that it would reduce the distances traveled to Mokubilo or Letlhakane for medical services. Another highlight of this financial year is the electrification of Makgaba village.

The Khwee community also received promising news from the MP, as they were informed about the electrification plans for their village within the same financial year. Furthermore, funds have been allocated for the initial design phase of the Khwee-Letlhakane road, with construction earmarked for the 2025/2026 financial year.

For a long time, Khwee people had decried shortage of stand pipes in the village, but the agony will soon be a thing of the past as there is an upcoming WUC project of installing more stand pipes in the village in June this year.

Mr Ditiro Nno, a resident highlighted that electrification of Khwee was a welcome development, adding that it would immensely make a difference in the lives of Khwee people.

He also said with the advent of electricity in Khwee, it would help lighting up the village at night, hence minimised incidents of crime.

In Mmatshumo, people have been complaining about the bad state of the Mmatshumo-Mosu gravel road.

However, Mr Lelatisitswe informed residents of Mmatshumo last week that funds have been availed for its design stage this financial year, while construction of the road has been planned for the 2025/2026 financial year.

In the 2024/2025 financial year, Letlhakane village will see the construction of a district hospital, unified secondary school and a 25km internal road project with street lights.

Mr Lelatisitswe said all these projects would bring along employment opportunities for people of Boteti East. ends
