Outgoing Chinese ambassador to Botswana, Mr Wang Xuefeng has been praised for the effort he exercised in building relations between the two states during his diplomatic tour of duty in Gaborone over the past three years.

These felicitations were expressed by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi during  Ambassador Wang's courtesy call on the President as he prepares to return to Beijing.

President Masisi said in addition to cultivating good Sino-Tswana relations, Ambassador Wang had been actively engaged in assisting community work to the benefit of both nations.

In particular, Dr Masisi expressed gratitude to the Chinese embassy for supporting the First Lady’s Office in their community engagement work, and said this was credible since this was a newly established office in the country.

Also, he pointed out that Ambassador Wang had worked with the Chinese community in Botswana on familiarising themselves with the country’s laws and regulations for more seamless trade.

President Masisi said subject to re-election at this year’s general elections, he would schedule a state visit to China over the next year in his quest to strengthened trade in key sectors to ensure no one gets left behind.

He noted areas such as technological innovation, modern agricultural products that ensure enhanced mechanised production, and seeking to grow the Chinese market for Botswana diamonds as areas for potential collaborative ventures.

Ambassador Wang said he had enjoyed his stay in Botswana and thanked President Masisi for the warm reception. Ends
