26 Mar 2024

Chairperson of SADC Women in Mining and President of Women in Business Association (WIBA), Ms Nametso Ntsosa-Carr says women should work with and support each other and collaborate in businesses.

WIBA chairperson said this during Moshupa District International Women’s day commemoration themed, Invest in Women: Accelerate progress- Inspire inclusion recently.

“There are a lot of opportunities in life, waiting for you to exploit them and you have to work together to prosper and avoid looking others down,” she said.
She further advised them to embrace the spirit of saving money ensuring that they do not buy everything, noting that they could use their back yards to grow their own vegetables.
Ms Ntsosa- Carr urged women to instil good values on their children from a tender age so that they turn up to be responsible future leaders.
She  highlighted the need for women to start thinking positively and doing things differently and further advised them to take advantage of various value chains.
“Let us make use of natural resources in our environment to better our lives and venture into different businesses such as mining and also exploit value chains available. Let us also take advantage of government programmes,” she added.
For her part, Moshupa District Commissioner, Ms Tebogo Hlabano said the day was meant for women to introspect, looking at their achievements, challenges as well as where they wanted to be as they get into the next chapter of their lives.
“We have to ask ourselves what our purpose as individuals was, we have been given equal time in a day and it depends on what we do with it to better our lives,” she said.
Ms Hlabano said women should be intentional in everything they did and act like a person they wanted to be, noting that they should have positive mind-sets as that would attract positive energy into their lives and eventually succeed in all they ventured in.
Moshupa District Commissioner advised women to love themselves and have fun, adding that they usually spend more time caring for others in the midst forgetting to pamper themselves.
She informed them that it was never too late to start on something new, as long as one was determined to win with a positive mindset, further highlighting the need for them to aim high.
Gender Officer at the ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture development, Ms Kesego Galasechite highlighted the need for gender equality, noting that even though men were head of families, they had to consult when making decisions which affected their families.
She also urged women to empower themselves and instil positive thinking on the girl child from a young age.
Ms Galasechite said Women’s day was meant for them to meet and look back from where they came from, their achievements and challenges and encourage each other to be better citizens.
“Never apologies to people for being a powerful woman, since the world needed strong women to be a better place for all,” she said.
There were also presentations on different topics during the day such as finance, Women in health, Gender Based Violence, spiritual upliftment as well as discussions on all aspects of life which affected women.
