President Advocate Duma Boko and the Queen of Lesotho Her Majesty Masenate Mohato Seeiso are among dignitaries expected to grace the 10th edition of the annual Desert Bush Walk scheduled for July 25.
The event, which has attracted thousands of hikers from various countries in the Southern African region,is preceded by a cultural exchange event and a Gala Dinner to celebrate the 10th anniversary as well as the Queen’s 50th birthday.
She is also scheduled to headline a groundbreaking ceremony for a library at Lefhoko today, which forms part of the Land Cruiser Club Botswana’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in partnership with the Desert Bush Walk.
Meanwhile, as hikers continue to arrive in Jwaneng for a bigger and better hiking experience marking a decade of exhilarating adventure, the hospitality industry is expecting a boost over the weekend.
In an interview, Campview manager, Leruo Gare said they were expecting to host a total of 150 guests at their facility for both chalets and camping.
He said since the guests would be arriving from different countries and regions, they had beefed up security and also ensured that the Foot and Mouth Disease protocols were adhered to,in an endeavour to prevent the spread.
To the Western side of Jwaneng, the owner of DK Cabins, Daniel Kazonda appreciated the socio-economic opportunities provided by the Desert Bush Walk annually, which he said extended to the local communities hired in the facilities.
He said due to the high volume of people expected and the hype around the 10th anniversary celebration, they were on high alert regarding safety, particularly in relation to veld fires that may emanate from campsites.
He further noted that their emergency response teams were ready to manage any situation. ENDS
