The De Beers Group has reiterated its commitment to strengthen community resilience and support education through collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in providing learning resources to schools.

Speaking during a handover ceremony at Matsheng Junior Secondary School in Sojwe on Thursday, De Beers Group Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Ms Otsile Mabeo said the company was committed to supporting education as it was the source of bright future.

She said De Beers had extended its outreach to the Kweneng District by donating to Matsheng Junior Secondary School and Loologane Primary School. Ms Mabeo said the Group decided to donate educational resources and repurposed materials in response to the pressing needs of communities in the district.

“Among the contributions are 450 repurposed sightholder briefcases, literature books and office furniture. The donation also includes a photocopying machine and an interactive white board, which supports efforts to incorporate digital solutions into the learning environment,” she said.

Ms Mabeo said the donation exemplified a multifaceted approach to supporting community development, blending strategic partnerships with grassroots initiatives to effect meaningful change where it is needed most.

Chief education officer, Mr Elisha Masedi said the chosen schools were unique in the sense that they were both located remotely and to them the educational materials would come handy.

Matsheng school head, Mr Shadrack Keatlholetswe said the donated materials would be shared with neighbouring schools for the benefit of all.

He indicated that they had shortage of classrooms with only 14 classrooms out of 29 classes, which situation forced them to conduct classes on shift bases.

Mr Keatlholetswe said though the school had not been performing well, the staff had committed to turn its performance around. Ends
