25 Mar 2024
Gaborone city councillors have expressed displeasure in the installation and distribution of solar street lights around the city.
Responding to the city mayor’s speech during the full council meeting in Gaborone on Thursday, Councillor Khuki Moremi of Morula Ward comprising Block 6 and Block 7 said the installation of the P1 billion lights was not fair.
Ms Moremi said the wards should have been treated equally regarding the installation of the lights as they were all within the city and had a collective effort in lighting the city.
“Go seka ga dirwa ka gore yo ke wa ga mang,” she said
She said the counci should not seem to want to regress development of the city.
She also pleaded with the mayor to visit her ward.
She expressed disappointment that there was no plan in place for the mayor’s visit to Gaborone wards as promised over the past council sittings.
Councillor for Difetlhamolelo ward, Mr Keemenao Motsamai said he was not impressed with the city’s school results.
He said since the introduction of double shift in schools during COVID-19, some schools released students early in the day.
He said since the children had a lot of free time, they engaged in unruly behaviour, which included drug use and other crimes, pleading that school study period be reinstated. ENDS
