Botswana attaches great importance to its excellent bilateral relations with the Bahamas, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi  has said.

He was addressing the media during the official visit by the Prime Minister of Bahamans, Mr Philip Davis. 

He said Botswana and Bahamas continued to enjoy strong bonds of friendship, solidarity and fruitful cooperation, which predated the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

President Masisi  said Botswana and The Bahamas shared a symbiotic relationship as both were former colonies of Britain and were both members of the British Commonwealth.

As fellow Commonwealth members, President Masisi said the relations were rooted in some similarities between the two nations.

“These relations are borne out of the two countries’ close historical, political, economic, social and cultural ties as well as their commitment to common values of democracy and good governance,” he said.

The bilateral relations, he said, were further nurtured by recent interactions between the two heads of state. 

President Masisi said it was only fitting that the two countries should meet at different levels to exchange notes on how best to serve their respective populace.

He said Botswana was committed to promoting multilateralism and its rules-based approach to advance sustainable global peace, development and security. 

He said Botswana shared the sentiments with The Bahamas regarding the composition of the United Nation Security  Council.

For his part, Prime Minister  Davis said his official visit underscored the two  nation’s commitment to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster mutual growth. 

“We look forward to exploring new avenues of cooperation and deepening understanding between our two nations,” he said.

Mr Davis said The Bahamas and Botswana shared many similarities with strong sisterhood ties, and that it was fitting for his country to benchmark on and share notes with Botswana on how best to improve the livelihoods of both countries citizenry. Ends
