WUC improves water supply in Kgatleng district

19 Mar 2024

Water Utilities Corporation is committed to improving water supply in the Kgatleng District in terms of quality, coverage and adequate pressures.

Speaking during the official opening of Kgatleng District Council on Monday, council Chairperson Mr Daniel Molokwe said Mochudi WUC has constructed a dedicated and bigger pipeline to Matebele village, which was already supplying sufficient water.

He said furthermore, there was an ongoing NSC2.2 project to supply Artesia and Leshibitse to the Masama water supply complex, planned for completion in July 2024. “Artesia village started to benefit from the connection in December 2023,” he said.

He said under the current financial year, two would be done under the WUC funded projects and the first one entailed a dedicated supply system to Tsope, Bollatshwene, and Diponchi, which commenced construction in March 2023 and is expected to be completed by July 2024.

The second funded project is the rehabilitation of the Boseja and Kgamanyane wastewater ponds in Mochudi and the contract amount was increased to P16 million to cater for munchers and desludging of all ten pump stations to improve the efficiency of the wastewater system.

He said the contractors mobilized to the site in November 2023, and the project was expected to be completed in October 2024.

The council chairperson, however, informed councillors that vandalism of wastewater pump stations was rampant, endangering the environment through pollution from resultant spillages.

Mr Molokwe implored them to educate their constituents obn the importance of protecting government property and reporting of perpetrators.

He said it was also worth noting that Mochudi WUC was owed over P45 453 000 of which 80 per cent was domestic debt.

He pleaded with residents to pay their bills on time, saying this was the money used to undertake improvements in services. BOPA Okaile Lo(19/3/2024)
