Tati Land Board to start land allocation
19 Mar 2024
Tati Land Board is scheduled to start allocations of residential plots within the District during the current financial year, says North East District Council (NEDC) Chairman Mr. Kudzani Tobokwani.
Addressing a full council on Monday, he said the lapse was a result of the land management process which required that plots be registered first at the Deeds Registry under the Board before being allocated to the applicants.
Recently, the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services has waved that provision and allowed boards to allocate the surveyed plots parallel to the registration process.
“The re-enacted Tribal Land Act 2018 that effected on 20th April 2022 provides for plots to be surveyed and registered at the Deeds Registry and the new process of availing plots ensures security of tenure and to allow people to use their land easily and have access to funding,” he said.
Mr. Tobokwani stated that the board has planned to allocate both residential and ploughing fields this financial year with some of the plots being already surveyed and on queue for registration at the Deeds Registry, while more plots were being surveyed.
He stated that the total number of plots was 7 833 composing of 6 436 residential plots and 828 ploughing fields as well as 549 for other land uses such as business, civic and community plots.
He said the Board would allocate an estimated 1 369 residential plots throughout the year, being 244 plots at Botalaote, 48 plots at Gungwe, 46 plots at Gambule, 79 plots at Toteng as well as 42 plots at Zwenshambe.
He said the board will also allocate 75 plots at Patayamatebele, and 34 plots at Gulubane.
Mr. Tobokwani highlighted that the Board has assessed newly identified land needed for expansion of villages and has identified and assessed 32 properties totalling about 146 hectors valued at a total amount of about P6,2 million.
This land has been identified in Masunga, Ramokgwebana, Tati Siding, Mabudzane and Shashe Bridge. He said the owners were currently being compensated.
Mr. Tobokwani highlighted that the water supply situation in the district was generally marginal with lot of supply challenges especially along some of the villages in eastern corridor.
He said the water treatment plant in Masingwaneng was struggling to meet the current demand due to aging infrastructure citing that the reticulation pipes were old and of lower class leading to frequent pipe bursts.
“Our District also experienced water supply challenges in the month of February this year where our dosage pumps failed and the treatment plant was out of operation for four consecutive days,” he said.
He noted that this was coupled with several pipe bursts along the transmission mains between the treatment plant and Makaleng village leading to the entire district being without water supply and intermittent availability of water was experienced in villages beyond Moroka Pump Station,
In this regard, as an immediate mitigation, augmentation of water supply through bowsing would continue to those areas which have not fully recovered. He stated that most areas have fully recovered except Moroka, Senyawe and Jackalas 1, where there was low pressure to no water in some parts of the village.
He said Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) was having challenges with pending water bills despite the service rendered and the pending water bill stood at more than P24 7 million with domestic consumers being the most indebted segment at about P10, 9 million
As the Corporation has provided for the use self-service platforms as they are the most convenient methods, he urged members of the public and heads of institutions to settle their outstanding bills and for both submission of meter readings and payment of water bills. /ENDS/BOPA/MM
