Twenty-year-old Thatayotlhe Kakwenda was presented before Magistrate Kedikilwe Johnson at the Gumare Court on Monday, facing charges related to the murder of Jacob Xhakhe. Xhakhe, also twenty years old and from Legonono ward in Gumare, was allegedly fatally stabbed in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Superintendent Chenamo Orateng, the station commander in Gumare, Kakwenda, hailing from Shaoshoko ward in Shakawe, was assisting in the investigation, while two other suspects remained at large.
A post-mortem examination, scheduled for February 27 in Maun, is still pending, as police probe further. The accused is currently charged with murder, with allegations stating that Kakwenda and others, not present in court on February 24, were involved in the killing of Xhakhe at or near Makgovango Luxury Inn in Mopako ward in Gumare.
Inspector Modirwa Kelebonye, representing the DPP, requested the accused's plea to be withheld due to the early stage of the case. He further moved for Kakwenda's remand in custody, citing ongoing investigations and the suspects who are still at large.
Magistrate Johnson granted the remand, scheduling the next hearing for March 12. The Investigating Officer is set to provide updates during the next court appearance. BOPA
