Kwape rewards PSLE top achievers

Kanye South MP, Dr Lemogang Kwape has implored the 2023 Primary School Examination Leavers (PSLE) who obtained grade A in his constituency to continue striving for the best in pursuit of their studies.

Dr Kwape said this at a prize handover, which was organised by the Southern Education Regional Office, where 227 cohort of learners who obtained grade A in their PSLE, were given P100 each, making a total of P24 000 in recognition of their outstanding effort to their studies.

He indicated that it was crucial for him to fulfill this undertaking, as he had previously promised students that a reward of P100 would be made for any student who obtained Grade A.

Dr Kwape advised the students to focus and ensure that they retained the grade as they progressed to the higher level of their studies.

“In the previous years, we discovered that our students have not been doing well, hence the need to challenge them to do more in exchange for a reward,” he said.

He said academic rewards were vital to the students’ performance since they acted as a catalyst in their drive to study.

“This is to show that your efforts are not in vain. The effort is to hold more value for the students and build a culture of competitive hardworking and passionate environment that provides a zeal to succeed,” he said.

For that, he noted that the initiative of rewarding best performing students was meant to enhance creativity and innovation amongst students, which in turn shall encourage students gain impulse to use their abilities and talents to reap big from their studies.

He further advised them to refrain from drugs and alcohol as it could have devastating effect in their lives.

“Focus on your studies and maintain the morals that you have learnt from your primary school,” he said.

He further encouraged them to take advice from their teachers and parents in order to succeed in all their academic undertaking.

He said government was committed to ensuring that all children had access to education, adding that government recognised good academic performance, hence the reason it was prepared to offer scholarships for those who passed and wished to further their studies.

“It is essential that we recognise and take advantage of strides as we maintain focus on our studies,” he said.

Dr Kwape also rewarded the teaching staff for their contribution to outstanding performance in the PSLE results and motivated them to work harder in order for the students to get better results.

For his part, Southern Region Education Office, Regional Director, Mr Acro-News Maseko said there was a need for continuous academic improvement for all schools.

He commended all the schools that had made significant efforts in overcoming barriers and meeting challenges.

He further applauded teachers and parents for creating opportunities for students’ success, adding that PSLE results had improved significantly from last year with an increase of 3.2 percent across board. ENDS
