Flu symptoms COVID-19 reports increasing

There is an increasing number of people with influenza-like illness and COVID-19 cases at health facilities.

A statement from the Ministry of Health says in the past four weeks cases of influenza-like illnesses ranged between 5 300 and 8 627 per week, while those of COVID-19 ranged between two and 41 per week.

The Ministry assures the public that the situation is under control, and that it remains steadfast in its commitment to closely monitor the situation and implement appropriate measures as may be necessary.

The statement requests members of the public to exercise vigilance and protect themselves as may be advised by health authorities from time to time.

It says some of the protective measures include practising hand hygiene protocols, promptly seeking medical attention if experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue and difficulty in breathing, among others and if necessary, observe physical distancing measures and wear masks.

Additionally, the statement advises the public to stay informed through credible sources of information such as updates from the Ministry of Health and reputable healthcare professionals. ENDS
