Vandalism on water infrastructure worries WUC
19 Feb 2024
Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) notes with concern continued vandalism of its infrastructure across the country.
A press release from the corporation states that in the past week alone, they registered two major incidents, one which left residents of Thamaga, Moshupa and Kanye without water.
“Just this weekend, the corporation registered another act of vandalism on a major pipeline that transmits water from Kunyere bores into Maun area. These acts of vandalism are unprecedented and have become a cause for concern following major efforts by government to attain access to water through major infrastructure development,” it states.
The release further says the culprits in the recent incidents are people who seem to have the right skills and equipment to destroy the infrastructure, all against the good of the nation.
It notes that the corporation takes these actions as a deliberate strategy aimed at compromising the gains made on the overall national water supply and will tighten measures that seek to protect water infrastructure to guarantee access to water by every citizen.
The corporation, therefore, advises the public to report any incidents of vandalism to the nearest police. ends
